    SO 965 General purpose metric screw threads — Tolerances

    ISO/TC ISO 965 was created by Technical Committee ISO/TC 1, Screw Threads.
    The fourth revision cancels and replaces the third edition (ISO 965-1:1998), which has been revised technically.
    ISO 965 consists of the following parts, under the general title ISO general purpose metric screw threads — Tolerances:
    — Part 1: Principles and basic data
    — Part 2: Limits of sizes for general purpose external and internal screw threads — Medium quality
    — Part 3: Deviations for constructional screw threads
    — Part 4: Limits of sizes for hot-dip galvanized external threads to mate with internal screw threads tapped with tolerance position H or G after galvanizing
    — Part 5: Limits of sizes for internal screw threads to mate with hot-dip galvanized external screw threads with maximum size of tolerance position h before galvanizing
    ISO 965-1:2013(EN) ISO general purpose metric screw threads — Tolerances — Part 1: Principles and basic data :
    ISO 965-1:2013 defines a tolerance system for ISO general purpose metric screw threads (M) according to ISO 261.The tolerance system refers to the basic profile according to ISO 68-1 as well

    ISO 965-2:1998(EN)ISO general purpose metric screw threads — Tolerances — Part 2: Limits of sizes for general purpose external and internal screw threads — Medium quality
    ISO 965:2:1998 defines the limits of sizes for pitch and crest diameters for ISO general purpose metric screw threads (M) conforming to ISO 262 having basic profile according to ISO 68-1.The limit of sizes for the tolerance quality specified are derived from the fundamental deviations and tolerances specified in ISO 965-1:2013
    ISO 965-3:1998(EN)ISO general purpose metric screw threads — Tolerances — Part 3: Deviations for constructional screw threads
    ISO 965-3:1998 defines deviations for pitch and crest diameters for ISO general purpose metric screw threads (M) conforming to ISO 261 having basic profile according to ISO 68-1
    These deviations specified are derived from the fundamental deviations and tolerances specified in ISO 965-1:2013
    ISO 965-5:1998(EN) ISO general purpose metric screw threads — Tolerances — Part 5: Limits of sizes for internal screw threads to mate with hot-dip galvanized external screw threads with maximum size of tolerance position h before galvanizing
    ISO 965-5-1998 defines deviations and limits of sizes for pitch and crest diameters for ISO general purpose metric internal screw threads conforming to ISO 262 having basic profile according to ISO 68-1.
    Internal screw threads according to ISO 965-5-1998 are intended to mate with external screw threads with maximum size of tolerance position h before hot-dip galvanizing.
    The limits of sizes for the tolerance quality specified are derived from tolerances specified in ISO 965-1:2013
    The fundamental deviations for internal screw threads with a tolerance position AZ have been calculated according to the following formula:
    EIAZ = + (300 + 20P)
    where
    EI is expressed in micrometers
    P is expressed in millimeters
    The fundamental deviations for internal screw threads with a tolerance position AX have been calculated according to the following formula:
    EIAX = + (220P − 20)
    where
    EI is expressed in micrometers;
    P is expressed in millimeters.
    Products made with thread tolerances according to ISO 965-5-1998 may show load failure when tested in accordance with ISO 898-2 without adjustment of the other mechanical properties.
