ISO 8000-1:2022(EN)Data quality — Part 1: Overview

The ISO 8000 series share frameworks for improving data quality for specific kinds of data. The series defines which characteristics of data are relevant to data quality, specifies requirements applicable to those characteristics, and provides guidelines for improving data quality. The series is applicable within all stages of the data life cycle.
IEC 80000 consists of the following parts, under the general title Quantities and units:
The following parts are published by ISO:
Part 1: General
Part 2: Mathematical signs and symbols to be used in the natural sciences and technology
Part 3: Space and time
Part 4: Mechanics
Part 5: Thermodynamics
Part 7: Light
Part 8: Acoustics
Part 9: Physical chemistry and molecular physics
Part 10: Atomic and nuclear physics
Part 11: Characteristic numbers
Part 12: Solid state physics
Part 6: Electromagnetism
Part 13: Information science and technology
Part 14: Telebiometrics related to human physiology

The following are within the scope of the ISO 8000 series:
— general aspects of data quality, including principles, vocabulary and measurement of information and data quality;
— data governance;
— data quality management, including processes, roles, responsibilities and maturity assessment;

The following are outside the scope of the ISO 8000 series:
— quality of the things represented by data;
ISO 8000-1:2022(EN)Data quality — Part 1: Overview
ISO 8000-1:2022 was created by Technical Committee ISO/TC 184, Automation systems and integration, Subcommittee SC 4, Industrial data.
ISO 8000-1:2022 is the first edition of ISO 8000-1, it cancels and replaces ISO/TS 8000-1:2011, which has been technically revised.
ISO 8000-1:2022 provides an overview of the ISO 8000 series.
The following are within the scope of ISO 8000-1:2022:
— stating the scope of the ISO 8000 series as a whole;
— establishing the principles of information and data quality;
— describing the path to data quality;
— describing the structure of the ISO 8000 series;
— providing a summary of the content of each part in the ISO 8000 series;
— establishing the relationship of the ISO 8000 series to other international standards.
ISO 8000-2:2020(EN) Data quality — Part 2: Vocabulary
ISO 8000-2:2020 defines terms relating to data quality used in the ISO 8000 series of parts.
ISO 80000-3:2019(EN)Quantities and units — Part 3: Space and time
ISO 80000-3:2019 gives names, symbols, definitions and units for quantities of space and time. Where appropriate, conversion factors are also given.
ISO 80000-4:2019(EN) Quantities and units — Part 4: Mechanics
ISO 80000-4:2019 gives names, symbols, definitions and units for quantities of mechanics. Where appropriate, conversion factors are also given.
ISO 80000-7:2019(EN) Quantities and units — Part 7: Light and radiation
ISO 80000-7:2019 gives names, symbols, definitions and units for quantities used for light and optical radiation in the wavelength range of approximately 1 nm to 1 mm. Where appropriate, conversion factors are also given.
ISO 8000-8:2015(EN) Data quality — Part 8: Information and data quality: Concepts and measuring
ISO 8000-8:2015 describes fundamental concepts of information and data quality, and how these concepts apply to quality management processes and quality management systems.
It also specifies prerequisites for measuring information and data quality when executed within quality management processes and quality management systems.
IEC 80000-13:2008(EN) Quantities and units — Part 13: Information science and technology
In IEC 80000-13 names, symbols and definitions for quantities and units used in information science and technology are given. Where appropriate, conversion factors are also given.
ISO 8000-100:2016(EN) Data quality — Part 100: Master data: Exchange of characteristic data: Overview
ISO 8000-100:2016 contains an overview of the master data quality series of parts of ISO 8000, which addresses master data quality.
The following are within the scope of the master data quality series of parts of ISO 8000:
— master data-specific aspects of quality management systems;
— master data quality metrics.
The approach of the master data quality series of parts of ISO 8000 is to address data quality:
— from the bottom up, i.e. from the smallest meaningful element, the property value;
— at the interface of master data management systems, not within the systems.
ISO 8000-115:2018(EN) Data quality — Part 115: Master data: Exchange of quality identifiers: Syntactic, semantic and resolution requirements
ISO 8000-115:2018 specifies the requirements for the quality identifiers that form part of an exchange of master data. These requirements supplement those of ISO 8000-110.
The following are within the ISO 8000-115:2018:
— the syntax and semantics of quality identifiers to allow the unambiguous identification of the owner of the identifier and any restrictions on the use of the identifier;
— the principles of resolving quality identifiers to the data set they represent;
— the characteristics that define quality identifiers.
The following are outside the scope of this document:
— the methods used for the creation of identifiers;
— the syntax of the query and of the response used in the resolution of identifiers;
— the methods used for the resolution of identifiers.
