Ethiopian Airlines Inflight Catering (EIFC), based in Ethiopia, has received ISO 22000:2018 certification from Pacific Certifications for its food safety management system.

The certified scope covers the procurement, receiving and storage of food, ingredients and packaging materials, preparation, cooking, baking, chilling, assembly, portioning, packaging and tray set-up of hot and cold meals, including special dietary meals, and dispatch and transportation of finished in-flight meals, food and beverage products for airline catering operations.

ISO 22000:2018, published by the International Organization for Standardization, specifies food safety management system requirements for organizations directly or indirectly involved in the food chain. It combines hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP) principles, prerequisite programs and management system controls to support the identification, evaluation and control of food safety hazards.

The standard addresses communication, documented information, monitoring, corrective action and continual improvement. For EIFC’s specified catering activities, these requirements provide a framework for managing food safety responsibilities across preparation, handling and transportation, from receipt of ingredients through dispatch of finished meals.

Pacific Certifications issued the certification following its independent assessment and certification process. The certification confirms that EIFC’s food safety management system conforms to the standard’s requirements within the certified scope.

EIFC will routinely check its food safety practices and update them when its catering activities change. Regular reviews and audits will help the company find gaps and resolve them promptly. Follow-up assessments by Pacific Certifications will provide an independent check that the required food safety standards are still being met.
