ISO 9141-2:1994(EN) Road vehicles — Diagnostic systems — Part 2: CARB requirements for interchange of digital information
ISO 9141-2:1994 was created by Technical Committee ISO/TC 22, Road vehicles, Sub-Committee SC 3, Electrical and electronic equipment.
ISO 9141 contains of the following part, under the general title Road vehicles — Diagnostic systems:

ISO 9141-2:1994 provides a subset of ISO 9141:1989. It defines the requirements for setting up the interchange of digital information between on-board emission-related Electronic Control Units (ECUs) of road vehicles and the SAE OBD II scan tool as explained in SAE J1978. This communication is created to facilitate compliance with California Code of Regulation, Title 13, 1968.1, Malfunction and Diagnostic Systems Requirements, 1994 and subsequent model year passenger cars,motors, light-duty trucks, and medium duty vehicles with feedback fuel control systems.
ISO 9141-3:1998(EN) Road vehicles — Diagnostic systems — Part 3: Verification of the communication between vehicle and OBD II scan tool
ISO 9141-3:1998 develops recommended test methods, test procedures and specific test parameters in order to verify a vehicle or OBD II scan tool can communicate on a bus according to ISO 9141-2
The procedures and methods test a set of specific requirements mentioned in this standard are applicable to all road vehicles and scan tools which make use of ISO 9141-2.
