The third edition (ISO 1629:1995), which is a minor revision, is canceled and replaced by this fourth version. The two novel rubbers BIMSM (terpolymer of isobutene, para-methyl styrene, and para-bromomethylstyrene) and DPNR are the key alterations (deproteinized natural rubber).
Based on the chemical make-up of the polymer chain, ISO 1629:2013 develops a system of symbols for the fundamental rubbers in both dry and latex forms.
ISO 1629:2013 Standard’s goal is to standardize the abbreviated terminology used in business, commerce, and government; it is not meant to compete with current trade names and trademarks, but rather to complement them.
